This semester, the haumāna of Kula Waena studied the Kumulipo and learned more about how our kūpuna viewed the world. They learned about balance and duality in nature and the relationship between things ma uka and ma kai. Each student chose a paʻa meaola from the first wā of the Kumulipo to research more in depth. They compared the two living things to find similarities and differences in environments, appearance, and how our kūpuna interacted with them in their daily life such as meaʻai or lāʻau lapaʻau. Here is their final project where they were tasked with representing both meaola in a single image in a meaningful and artistic way. Aloha mai kākou. This makahiki marks 30 years of ʻImi Pono at Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Pūʻōhala! Join us as we post daily for a month leading up to ʻImi Pono on 5 Malaki. We will be posting videos from papa at kula, articles, art work, plays, tutorials, and more!
